Gynecomastia surgery for men

Gynecomastia is the benign enlargement of the breast tissue in males. Gynesomastia may arise as an abnormal condition associated with metabolic disorders or as a side-effect of special hormone medication used in sports. Obesity may also contribute to accumulation of fat and enlargement of the breast tissue. Gynecomastia surgery is performed under general anesthesia (local anesthesia sometimes).

Various surgery techniques are used to reduce the benign enlargement of the breast tissue, from the partial or complete removal of the breast tissue, i.e. excision with liposuction. The patient can go home the same day or, if small drain tubes are left after the surgery, the next day after the surgery. The pain is controlled by analgesic, and compression therapy is applied with restriction of physical activities for 4 to 6 weeks.
